Force Measurement Tools: Portable CDI Electronic Torque Tester

electronic torque testerOne of the most flexible torque instruments that we have available at CSC Force Measurement is the CDI Torque ETT or electronic torque tester. Unlike a torque calibration system, which is used to generate a certification for a torque wrench or another type of torque instrument, this portable torque tester is battery-powered and works as a stand-alone torque tester. In addition to working with a battery, which makes it ideal for testing during production, out in the field, or pretty much anywhere, this unit can also be used on AC power. The primary purpose of this torque tester is to check the accuracy of the dial and click-type torque wrenches and screwdrivers to ensure accuracy in between calibrations.

How Does It Work?

The design of this electronic torque tester makes it easy to use and offers four peak modes of operation. Those modes include peak mode, power tool mode, first peak mode, and track mode. It provides dual scale data in English/Nm or English/cNm, dNm readouts. Choose from an auto or manual display resent for greater control and even easier use. This portable torque tester reads bi-directionally, offering the operator a choice between cw and ccw options. The unique neck design of the CDI Torque ETT equipment allows the user to see the LCD display when testing long torque wrenches.

Designed to be a low-cost yet sturdy portable torque tester, this instrument can either be placed on the wall in a factory for centralized use or placed on a cart or a bench for easy movement throughout the facility. This allows for multiple users, increased flexibility and portability, and lets operators test their torque wrenches and power tools without having to leave their station. When used in battery mode, the batteries that come with the unit are rechargeable NiCad for long and reliable use. The AC mode is excellent for facilities that want a standard wall installation unit or allow a plug-in option at each station when in use by employees.

Eight Different Models

These torque instruments from CDI Torque come in eight distinctive models with torque ranges that start at 10 inches/ounce on up to 600 feet/pound. The accuracy of this electronic torque tester is ± 0.5 percent of indicated value, cw, and ccw, from ten percent up to 100 percent of full scale, plus one increment or least significant digit. The integral transducer and sturdy housing design allow for mounting in virtually any position to improve ease of use for all operators. A power adapter cord is included, as well as a bench bracket and a socket adapter that is suited for the size of a square drive of the portable torque tester.

Capacity ranges include 10-100 in/oz, 40-400 in/oz, 5-50 in/lb, 10-100 in/lb, 25-250 in/lb, 100-1000 in/lb, 25-250 ft/lb, and 60-600 ft/lb to best meet your needs and the demands of your facility. The drive size for each of these different capacities also ranges between one-quarter-inch for the first four options, three-eighths-inch for the 25-250 in/lb and 100-1000 in/lb versions, one-half-inch for the 25-250 ft/lb, and three-quarters-inch for the largest capacity, the 60-600 ft/lb option.
