HPS II Horizontal Slipmeter

Category:

Description

A truly portable Horizontal Pull Slipmeter for the evaluation of SLIP RESISTANCE characteristics of floor surfaces, samples of flooring materials, footwear sole/heel materials, stair treads, walkway coatings, waxes, work platforms, etc

CSC Force Measurement, Inc. SLIP MASTER, Model HPS II is a portable instrument for the measurement of slip resistant characteristics in footwear soling materials, relative to flooring surface materials, coatings, waxes or contaminants: or for the measurement of relative slip characteristics of various soling or flooring materials compared to others of the same category. The unit is primarily intended for the measurement of static slip resistance: that is, the force required to cause one body in contact with another, to begin to move. The SLIP MASTER features a peak hold mode which will capture the maximum force value and display it continuously until reset by the operator. The HPS II system includes the drive motor/power pack assembly, a load dial/sled slipmeter assembly, a calibration hook and sanding block, test materials. The load dial/sled slipmeter assembly incorporates three (3) specimens of the test material as feet to contact the surface upon which the tests will be conducted. These specimens are easily replaceable, allowing evaluation of specific materials at any time.

Calibration

The SLIP MASTER incorporates built-in standardization, making it unique as a portable field use friction testing instrument. Using the calibration hook, the load dial/sled slipmeter assembly is hung vertically while the display pointer is compared to calibration (CAL) marking on the dial. If the pointer failed to fall within the calibration
marks, the load dial would simply be returned to the factory for inspection and repair.

Method of Operation

For use, the load dial/sled slipmeter assembly is placed on the surface under evaluation. The power pack assembly is placed opposite the hook of the load dial with the pulley aligned and level. The tension cord is then unwound from the pulley and connected to the load dial hook. Set zero by rotating bezel until pointer meets zero on dial. With the power pack held down firmly, the drive motor is used to reel the cord, pulling the load dial against sled friction When the static friction has been exceeded the sled will begin moving toward the power pack and continue until the motor switch is released. If the peak hold function is in use, the static friction value will be displayed on the dial until recorded by the operator, who can then reset the the unit for the next test. If the peak hold function is disabled, then the force value required to move the sled across the surface (kinetic friction) can be observed by watching the main pointer moving. You can average the results and record readings by the operator. The value displayed on the load dial sled slipmeter is known as the slip index for the material under test. It is the static coefficient of friction for the material with the decimal point moved one place to the right, i.e., 0.56 coefficient of friction equals slip index of 5.6
